Learn to Crochet a Ripple Blanket

by Tonya Grant |Filed Under: Crochet Tagged With: Ripple Get a Weekly Update of all Articles

If you’ve always wanted to crochet a ripple or chevron blanket, then this class is for you. Learn the basics with video tutorials and a supportive group.

Have you ever tried a crochet ripple blanket? Sometimes they are called a chevron blanket too. The design creates a cool wavy zig zag pattern across the rows that looks tricky but is actually not that hard.

I made my first ripple a few years ago in random rainbow colours. Later a made another that was mainly cream with splashes of blues and greens – using up the scraps left over from the first mostly. My third was in navy, red and grey with an even pattern of rows. Right now I’m working on my denim ripple blanket in denim blue, silver grey and turquoise.

When I saw that the next 30-day Challenge with IdealMe was a ripple blanket, I thought it was the perfect chance for you to join me in my ripple madness! The photos for the class blanket are below in shades of grey. This ripple is slightly different to the one I’m working on now – see how the ripples are taller? Once you have made one chevron blanket, it is easy to understand how to adjust the pattern to get wider or taller ripples.

The 30-day challenge is a special closed group class where you get access to video tutorials and a Facebook group to discuss, encourage and support each other. The challenges are a monthly subscription so once you sign up for one, you continue to get the next – although you can opt out again at any time, of course. There are a range of students in the group from total beginners to more experienced crocheters and there is always someone to answer questions and help out if you get stuck with the project.

There are a range of students in the group from total beginners to more experienced crocheters and there is always someone to answer questions and help out if you get stuck with the project. The students in the Facebook group are super friendly and everyone shares their progress photos so it very inspirational.

I have almost completed my first project the C2C squares blanket that you may have seen on my Instagram account recently. I just have to stitch my squares together.

The past month the class has made a Summer Market Bag which I have to confess I have not started yet. I have chosen the yarn and printed the pattern – does that count as progress?!

If you’d like to learn how to crochet a ripple blanket then I can highly recommend this challenge and class. The quality of the teaching is very high and the added bonus of having a group to share with is a real motivator. Of course, you can ignore the group and just learn to crochet too. You will get access to various beginner videos with your subscription as well.

The challenge has finished but you can still get the video tutorial.

Check out classes on CrochetU – my current favourite place to learn new crochet skills and meet some lovely ladies as well.
