The April quilt block from the Craftsy free Block of the Month class was a challenge for me. I haven’t pieced curved seams before. I haven’t created a circle in a block like this before. I haven’t appliqued around a circle for a long time. I haven’t used the blanket stitch on my sewing machine much before. So I loved learning some new skills with this block.
The block is by no means perfect but I’m happy that I finished it. You can’t tell in the photos but when I joined the four sections together to make the full block, it wouldn’t lay flat. So I decided to create two little pleats (like dress making darts!) to get it flat before I added the centre circle. Then my circle was barely large enough to cover the space so I added some extra fabric on the back to adhere my circle into place more securely.
But you wouldn’t know any of this if I hadn’t told you and once the quilt is all together you won’t be able to look at the back of the block so I don’t see any problem. It was a learning experience and that is part of why I signed up!

I am really quite proud of you! It looks perfectly round to me! Not something I could achieve at any rate! And how positively beautiful you are by being graceful in your trials and being happy to put it down to a lesson learned. You are an inspiration not only in craft but Character as well. God bless you xo
